Born in Nuremberg, Germany then emigrating to Holland, he enjoyed a long working life at Ensched� in Haarlem. His typefaces mixed vertical and angled stress with a variety of serif styles. A superb technician, Fleischman took full advantage of better tools and harder steel to push technical limits; he worked with ever thinner strokes, concentrating on optical manipulation to enliven the page with a certain dancing �sparkle.�
